FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement from Merle Griff Chair, National Adult Day Services Association on the Full Report of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging
The National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) is pleased that the full report of the White House Conference on Aging (WHCOA) focuses on home and community-based services (HCBS), including adult day services, and their value to our nation's older adults.
NADSA board member Lisa Gables was the first to testify before the delegates at the WHCOA Listening Sessions, and her testimony is reflected in the delegates' decision to make the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act (OAA) their top priority. The programs authorized under the OAA, including HCBS and adult day services, help older Americans remain in their own homes and help them live longer, more independent lives.
We urge the Senate Select Committee on Aging to hold hearings about the WHCOA recommendations to help make the implementation strategies that delegates recommended a reality.
