CDC’s New Website for Long Term Care Can Be Resource for Adult Day Centers

Posted January 23, 2014 in Resources / Providers

The Centers for Disease Control unveiled a new website with infection  prevention resources for long-term care settings such as nursing homes and  assisted living. This site organizes  existing infection prevention guidance and resources into sections for clinical  staff, infection prevention coordinators, and residents. Facilities can also  directly access the new infection tracking system for long-term care facilities  in CDC’s National Healthcare  Safety Network, and the innovative infection prevention tools and resources  developed as part of the partnership between CDC and the Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign (AE).

CDC’s long-term care website is available at: http://www.cdc.gov/longtermcare/.

TimeSlips was featured on the Today Show on Friday, Nov. 25!

Posted November 29, 2011 in Resources / Providers

Back in October, the Today Show came to Milwaukee to shoot a segment on TimeSlips at Luther Manor and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.   The crew, including reporter Jenna Bush really “got” the person-centered power of the creative storytelling method based right here in Milwaukee.   The clip is a testimony to power of the arts and imagination to help re-knit people with dementia into the fabric of community.

Watch the TimeSlips segment here!

We are hopeful that this broadcast will be a positive and supportive spotlight on educating the country about dementia, as well as the power of the arts.

Attainment Company Publishes Book to Transform Senior Care in Long-Term Settings

Posted August 17, 2011 in Resources / Providers

On August 1, 2011, Attainment Company released its new Aging Resources book, Person-Centered Care in Practice: Tools for Transformation, by Lyn Geboy and Beth Meyer-Arnold. The book provides caregivers with a practical approach for implementing person-centered care, a promising mode for achieving culture change in elder and dementia care facilities.

Based on the authors’ research and real-world application in an elder and dementia care facility, the book provides caregivers with the foundation they need to make system-wide improvements. The action plan outlines nine basic strategies for implementing person-centered care, and a toolkit with two dozen operational tools helps caregivers assess progress. A CD with a printable PDF and a customizable Microsoft Word version of the Toolkit is included.

Person-Centered Care in Practice pioneers a movement of change in long-term care facilities for the elderly. “Changing culture is personal,” Beth says. “We must drive change for the people we serve, as passionately as if it were for ourselves.”

The book was released on August 1, 2011, and is available for order from Attainment Company’s website or catalog.
