This award recognizes adult day center administrators or directors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership within their centers and their communities. This award is given to an administrator or director who has given at least five years of service to an adult day services center.
NADSA is proud to present the 2013 Administrator/Director Award to Shannon Ross, Director of Center Operations for SarahCare Day Care Centers, Inc. in Canton, Ohio. She started working as Activities Director, was promoted to Executive Director and then to her current position as Director of Center Operations. These promotions speak to Shannon’s ability to lead a smaller number of staff to a much larger staff.
Shannon has shown strong leadership in managing two centers handling matters in a timely and discreet manner. She works continually to meet the needs of the participants, bringing new ideas to stimulate participation. She works with the staff to involve each one in the decision process, encouraging and supporting their efforts. Her enthusiasm and respect for seniors influences greatly the support her staff gives to each individual because she leads by example. The support and encouragement she gives to the caregiver families is one of compassion through good communication and a willingness to problem solve to bring about a result that is fair and equitable for all parties involved. “I have great respect and admiration for Shannon as well as thinking of her as a friend,” said co-worker Julie Martin. “I have learned a great deal from her over the years I have known her and expect to learn much more.”
Shannon’s dedication to community service is exemplified in her various volunteer activities. From leading a community support group, to work with the Alzheimer’s association, to co-chairing the NADSA annual conference for the past few years, she is passionate about giving her administrative gifts for the advance of adult day care. A great leader is someone who brings out the best potential in an individual to achieve a greater common good without worrying about who gets the credit. Shannon Ross is that kind of administrator.
