Carla Jones, RN, Executive Director, Laurie Parker, Community Outreach, and Micah Riggle, Board Member, recently met with two HR Directors from Shaw Industries Group, Inc., the world’s largest carpet manufacturer and leading floorcovering provider whose home base is Dalton, Georgia with 23,000 associates worldwide.
Before the informal lunch-and-learn began, Micah set the essential ground rules, stating that we were not looking for financial assistance or volunteer opportunities. The sole purpose of the meeting was to highlight RossWoods’ Adult Day Services and illustrate how our program can support the working caregiver, prevent caregiver burnout, reduce employee stress, and avoid the possibility of losing an employee.
We supported our points with statistics from various sources. The first point and most surprising to the HR Directors was The Genworth 2013 Cost of Care Survey, which reported that the cost of Adult Day Health was the most affordable when comparing costs with other long term care options. We also presented statistics from the Family Caregiver Alliance website (such as: 70% of working caregivers suffer work-related difficulties due to their dual caregiving roles) and the National Alzheimer’s Association Fact Sheets reporting the unsettling number of people expected to be diagnosed with dementia by 2050. Our conversation included the history of our program, examples of working families who have used or are using our services, and the overall benefits caregivers receive by using adult day services.
An enthusiastic discussion ensued on how we could promote our program to other HR Directors, HR Managers and HR Supervisors within Shaw Industries. There wasn’t any doubt that the HR Directors were excited about RossWoods and its benefits. The successful meeting concluded with a tour of RossWoods.
