This past Thursday, July 16th, the Senate quietly and unanimously passed by voice vote S.192 to reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) through 2018. For the past two years, NADSA joined with 48 other national organizations to urge passage of this legislation because it contains new provisions relating to Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) and Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC) that could be helpful to Adult Day Services as Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) providers. (Capitol Hill Lobby Day participants will recall that this was one of our “asks” to the legislators.) Access the summary and other information about the bill via this link:

The effort now moves to the House of Representatives to obtain approval by that body. Now is the time to contact your Member of Congress to urge him/her to support S.192 as passed by the Senate on July 16th. Note that this is a bipartisan compromise bill that has been negotiated over the past two years.
