After laboring quietly in the field for decades, Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) has finally emerged as a key service that bridges the gap between health services and social determinants of health. This webinar features Margaret Tatar, an expert from Health Management Associates, a national health consulting firm. Ms. Tatar has served as a managed care organization (MCO) executive and prior to HMA was the Deputy Director of California’s Department of Health Care Services. Ms. Tatar will cover:

  • How and why managed care has emerged as the organizing entity in the national demonstrations under the Affordable Care Act
  • The basics of various managed care models in the state MLTSS demonstrations
  • How states are implementing different models of managed care and the role of adult day services within these models.
  • How to engage with your state and other stakeholders to strategically contract with managed care – with an eye on opportunities and challenges

About the Presenter: Margaret Tatar was the Assistant Deputy Director for Health Care Delivery Systems at the Department of Health Care Services since October 7, 2013, where was the chief of the Medi-Cal Managed Care Division since 2012.  From 2003, until her appointment with the Department of Health Care Services, Ms. Tatar was the executive director of public affairs at CalOptima.  She was the planning manager for the Orange County Office on Aging from 2001 to 2003, a staff member at the district office for Assembly member Lynn Daucher from 2000 to 2001, and a senior legislative attorney at the Colorado General Assembly, Office of Legislative Legal Services from 1993 to 1998.  She received her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College and her law degree from Villanova University Law School.
