ADS Outcomes and Data Collection
The National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) has responded to growing demands among public and private funders that Adult Day Services (ADS) be able to document effectiveness and value in the services they deliver. This documentation takes many forms in many different areas and NADSA has worked diligently to develop a uniform set of standard outcomes measures (can we add this link from below to the published paper: Uniform outcome measures for ADS) over the last several years. In 2021, NADSA and
Collabrios Health launched the ADS Outcomes and Data Collection Project open to all NADSA members utilizing the framework of outcomes referenced above including:
Participant Outcomes
- Functional Health-iADL (Lawton)/ADL (Katz)
- Fall Risk (Hendrich II)
- Depression (GDS15)
- Loneliness (UCLA8)
- Nutrition (DETERMINE)
- Cognition (SLUMS)
- Health Assessment (OT-SPPHS)
- Pain Assessment (OT-NRSPS)
Healthcare Utilization
- Emergency Room Use
- Hospital Admission/Readmission and Length of Stay
- Injury Inducing Falls
- Medication Use
- Hospice/Palliative Care Use
- ALF/SNF Placement
Caregiver Outcomes
- Health Assessment (OT-SPPHS)
- Emotional Health (ZBI)
The resulting information will show the quantitative and longitudinal value of ADS across the spectrum of models and services provided. The data collection effort will allow NADSA and its members to provide aggregated, HIPAA-compliant data to CMS, the Congressional Budget Office, federal and state legislators and a variety of payers demonstrating the value and benefits of Adult Day Services through the utilization of standardized data and outcomes, but requires your participation!
Person-Centered, Quality-of-Life Measures Pilot Project (2026)
NADSA, in collaboration with Platinum Strategic Partner
Collabrios Health,
New York University and support from the
Alzheimer’s Association, is expanding the ADS Outcomes and Data Collection Project to include the following person-centered quality-of-life measures for people living with dementia:
-
PROMIS Short Form
-
Life Engagement Test (LET)
-
Engagement in Meaningful Activities Survey (EMAS)
-
Friendship Scale (FS)
-
General Belongingness Scale (GBS)
We’re inviting programs already collecting data to pilot these measures and share brief feedback. These measures are already built in, and we’ll provide guidance and support along the way. Your input would help shape how quality of life is measured in adult day services nationwide. NADSA held an introductory webinar on January 30, 2026. Click

NADSA will be hosting Weekly Office Hours every Friday
at 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET. Here is the Zoom link to access the Office Hours meeting:
